Building a More Sustainable Digital Future
As Ireland’s trusted provider of digital infrastructure and shared technology services for the education and research sector, Asiera operates critical national infrastructure that underpins teaching, learning and research across the country. We recognise that the digital services we provide have an environmental footprint, but they also enable our clients to reduce theirs through shared services, energy efficient infrastructure and sustainable technology.
Sustainability is central to how we operate. It shapes the way we deliver responsible digital services, support our clients, invest in our people and contribute to the communities we serve. By integrating environmental responsibility, social value and strong governance into our decision making, we are building a more resilient organisation for the future.
We believe innovation and sustainability go hand in hand. By continually investing in smarter technologies, automation and more efficient digital infrastructure, we help deliver better outcomes for both our clients and the environment.
Our Priorities to 2030
Sustainability is a key strategic focus area for Asiera and is embedded within our Strategy 2026–2030, which sets out our ambition to reduce our environmental impact, enhance social outcomes, and maintain long term financial sustainability.
- Reducing our environmental footprint through energy efficient operations and responsible resource management.
- Contributing to national climate action objectives and public sector sustainability goals.
- Embedding sustainability considerations into procurement and supplier management.
- Supporting the wellbeing of our people through a healthy, inclusive and engaging workplace.
- Promoting sustainability awareness through education, engagement and collaboration.

- Maintaining long term organisational resilience and financial sustainability.
Environmental Responsibility
Since launching our sustainability programme, Asiera has improved energy efficiency by more than 70% through infrastructure modernisation, data centre consolidation, investment in energy efficient technologies and continuous operational improvement.
Asiera is committed to supporting Ireland’s Climate Action Plan and the Public Sector Climate Action Mandate through measurable initiatives and continuous improvement. Our environmental priorities include:
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by identifying, measuring and lowering our carbon footprint, while promoting more sustainable ways of working.
- Encouraging active travel, public transport, hybrid working, and other initiatives that reduce transport related emissions.
- Striving to minimise waste, increase reuse and recycling, and reduce unnecessary consumption across our operations.
- Procuring goods and services from suppliers who share our commitment to environmental responsibility.

Social Impact
Our strong history of creating positive social impact provides a solid foundation for continued progress. We are committed to creating a workplace where our people can thrive while making a positive contribution to the communities we serve. Our priorities include:

Our governance framework supports:
- Executive leadership and oversight of sustainability initiatives.
- Clear accountability for climate action and sustainability objectives.
- Regular monitoring and reporting of progress through our Sustainability Council.
- Alignment with relevant legislation, regulation, and public sector mandates.
Our sustainability performance is measured through defined targets, key performance indicators and regular reporting, ensuring transparency and accountability as we progress towards our 2030 ambitions.
