Asiera is leading the EOSC.ie project, a national initiative focused on defining and delivering a practical, sustainable model for an EOSC Ireland Node. The project is working towards an agreed and validated specification, supported by a robust business case and a clearly defined operational budget to ensure long-term viability.
A central priority of EOSC.ie is the consolidation of Ireland’s existing research landscape. By aligning data resources, infrastructure, and expertise across institutions, the initiative is establishing a coordinated national data framework that better serves the research community. This coordinated approach is designed to optimise the use of high-value infrastructure, minimise unnecessary duplication, and ensure that national investments deliver measurable and enduring impact.
From an operational perspective, EOSC.ie places strong emphasis on the delivery of practical, researcher-facing services. This includes the development of a shared national data solution, a unified access point to repositories, and a suite of services designed for integration into everyday research workflows. A structured and well-defined helpdesk function will underpin these services, provide consistent support, guidance, and issue resolution, while facilitating a smoother collaboration across institutional boundaries.
Enhancing the researcher experience remains a key objective. By streamlining workflows and reducing both administrative and technical barriers, EOSC.ie supports more efficient, reproducible research practices and strengthens collaboration across Ireland’s research ecosystem.

In parallel, the project engages with the broader policy and strategic landscape. EOSC.ie is contributing to Ireland’s alignment with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) framework, while also informing national policy development, including funding models and compliance incentives. This dual focus ensures that EOSC principles are embedded more effectively within the national research environment.
Through EOSC.ie, Asiera is actively advancing Ireland’s open research agenda. The project is fostering greater awareness of EOSC across the research community, while supporting the development of a sustained community of practice that brings together libraries, IT services, and research support functions across the country.
