ESB Telecoms Ltd
As a result of long-standing collaboration between ESB Telecoms Ltd, DCCAE (Department of Communications Client Action and Environment) and ourselves – Asiera have been granted the right to use a fibre optic pair on the ESB Telecoms national fibre network.
This fibre optic pair is the core backbone for our Asiera national network. Utilising this ESB Telecoms fibre optic pair, Asiera delivers Internet access nationally to Universities, Colleges, Institutes of Technology, third-level research organisations and primary and post-primary schools across the country.
ESB Telecoms NTFON (National Telecoms Fibre Optic Network) consists of over 1300Km of fibre across the country.

Through interconnections with its 38 NREN (national research and education network) partners – including Asiera – the GÉANT network is the largest and most advanced research & education network in the world, connecting over 50 million users at 10,000 institutions across Europe and supporting all scientific disciplines. The backbone network operates at speeds of up to 500Gbps and reaches over 100 national networks worldwide.
Asiera’s partnership with GÉANT takes our national network and makes it a global network, expanding our resources throughout the world for our clients.

e-IRG (e-Infrastructure Reflection Group)
The main objective of e-IRG (e-Infrastructure Reflection Group) is to support the creation of a political, technological and administrative framework for an easy and cost-effective shared use of distributed electronic resources across Europe.
Hotline.ie
Est. in 1999, Hotline.ie works in close collaboration with national and international partners in law enforcement and industry to ensure that whilst child sexual abuse material is removed from the Internet, the children within images may also be identified and safeguarded.
Hotline.ie operates in conjunction with An Garda Síochána, and its operations and procedures are approved and overseen by the Department of Justice.
Removing child sexual abuse material from the Internet breaks the cycle of sexual exploitation, it reduces the supply and confronts the demand, whilst preventing repeat-victimisation of children. More detail on Asiera’s involvement with Hotline.ie can be found in our AUP.
.ie Registrar
.ie is the registry for .ie internet domain names and maintain the .ie database. They have been managing the .ie country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) namespace since 2000.
INEX
INEX (Internet Neutral Exchange) is the internet peering point for the island of Ireland. A neutral, industry-owned Association, founded in 1996, that provides IP peering facilities for its members. Asiera is a founder member of INEX and has been connected to the neutral exchange point in Dublin since it began operating in 1997.
Internet2
Internet2 is a member-driven advanced technology community founded by America’s leading higher education institutions in 1996. Internet2 provides a collaborative environment where US research and education organisations can solve common technology challenges and develop innovative solutions in support of their educational, research and community service missions.
LIR Group
Established in 1993, LIR (HEAnet User Group for Libraries) provides a forum for discussion on the use of electronic resources and networks by HEI libraries, assists in development and training for their effective use, and encourages communication and co-operation between member libraries in accessing electronic resources.
